REFLECTION REPORT
Adrian Matthew Dass
We had a group project with each group comprising of 3-4 members and my group mates are Regina, Laura and Vinie. We were given a task to write a research paper pertaining to a trip we made to the forest on October 9th 2014 which is at Forest Research Institute Malaysia. All of the groups had to make a title of their own with anything related to the theme of nature and conservation. The reason for a group project is to train our interaction skills with each other. I would to express my experience I had during this few weeks of our research project.
Unfortunately, I did not get the chance to visit the place with my course mates a I had an unexpected illness and had to quarantined myself at home for a week. I felt so disappointed that I could not go as I imagined it would have been a fun trip. My course mates enjoyed their time in the trip as they were given activities to participate like treasure hunt and so on. One of my teammates was helpful as she kept me updated on the details of the project and also shared her photos of what they did in the forest via a smartphone and I felt more disappointed that I was not there to remind myself the feeling of nature.
A week later I returned for classes as usual and I was worried about what task we were supposed to do and how should we do it. However, after the lecturers explained to us the format of the research paper, it was not as difficult as I seemed earlier. We then created a topic for our group research and a few survey questions. Initially it was a little difficult as we could not get any idea of questions to distribute to people but eventually we worked it out smoothly. Although some of my group members went back to their countries during the one week break, they made time and effort in pursuing their work. Meanwhile, me and my other teammate were struggling with the literature review as we were confused and had doubts on the format and what articles to research on but when we asked the lecturers for guidance we managed to complete it.
On our presentation day, I was chosen by my lecturer to be an MC for the day. It was my first time being the MC therefore I felt nervous at first but I went on without hesitation and I spoke just fine. However I felt that I could have been more energetic and confident in the way I spoke and presented my research. Moreover, all of us had a fun and happy moment and we would like to do a presentation like this again.
All in all I would say that our project was both challenging and fun as we get to learn how to work and communicate with each other and how to write a research paper and this will train us for our further assignments. I also felt that I enjoyed working with people in this course more than I did in my previous course, Diploma in Business because I realized that my course mates are more responsible, humble and I would also want to gain my experience working with international students.

Do ever go to the forest? Forest covered 30% of the land. Malaysia also has forests. Since I was studying in Malaysia. On Thursday, 9th October 2014 I was doing trip to FIRM. I was happy and a bit afraid about the trip because it was the first time for me to enter the jungle. It was scary at the beginning, but since I went in. I got new informations from the guide. He told us about the woods, the leaves and how to know the jungle. We went through to the jungle. The road was a little bit slippery and we needed to climb to the top of the hill. On the top of hill, we saw great scenery. It was the best part from this forest, there were many trees that growing together but they did not overlapping each other. It was really nice; the guide told us that it became more interesting in night because the moonlight gave a different scene. My experience to FIRM was really exciting, I have learnt a lot. I found that we could defeat our fear. If we knew the situation then we would not be afraid of anything, we can because we find it was as a habitual.
I could say that I really love this trip. Besides, what I do not really feel comfy to play the game. I do not feel close to my hunt team. I know they are nice, but I found that is quite hard to communicate with them. I wish that next time we need to do more activities or game to make us closer and know more about each other.
As the conclusion I really enjoy my trip to FIRM, doing research and presentation. I learned a lot of thing and I found togetherness from IEN2. We know more about each other. It was really fun to go there. My suggestion is we need to do more trips for the future, because I found that doing the trip is really fun! I would like to spend more time with classmate!

On Thursday, 9th October 2014 Intensive English class in Taylors University Lakeside Campus visited Frim Forest which is located at Kepong. We went there not only for find some fun but also for references for our research project. We went to there by bus. It was a nice place with many trees around and we can smell the scents of fresh air. Firstly, we hear some instructions from the lecturer. We have 2 tour guides who will guide us to explore the forest. Before we went to the forest, the tour leader invite us to go looked inside the museum. There were a lot of things made from wood and other things that related to the forest. After that, we went to the forest. The tour guide explained to us about the trees inside the forest such as the unique things and the function of it.
After that, the lecturer divided us into several group for treasure hunt activities. So, there was a paper that will be given to us and we must found the answer inside the forest. It was fun activities, even though I lost. I also feel very tired after that activities. From that activities I learnt about teamwork and some knowledges about trees.
After the activities at Frim, we work in our research. Fortunately, this was group project. I still could feel relax a bit. For the first week the lecture gave us explanation about what project that we will do and how to make the research. But, since the second week was holiday so we did it by ourself and we still could ask the teacher to help us by email. For me this project was very difficult. Another problem of it that because I went back to my hometown. Even though I still could contact with my friends by internet but the problem was the internet connection in my hometown was quite bad and very slow. So, it was hard to contact with my friends.
28th October 2014, that was the day that we should presented our research. We must presented the research not only in front of our classmates but also to other Intensive English classes and also the teachers. All of us felt very nervous before we started it. Luckily, all of us can present well even though I think that I was not presenting so well but we finished it. I felt very happy that I could finished the presentation and I felt very grateful to my group member. I learnt teamwork , appreciate every member opinion, share our opinion and also friendship. Started with the Frim and the treasure hunt , then the process to make the project and the research until we presented to others it was hard but we finished it. I feel so happy because I can finished it on time and Thank you to my friends and our teachers that help us a lot in our project.
